Richard Long is a pioneer of land art and one of the most notable artists to emerge form the 1960's. This is his fourth exhibition with Haunch of Venison and first show of work since his 2009 at Tate Britain. Simplicity meets human nature with carefully positioned collections of found natural objects, wall mounted text pieces and also photographs.
I couldn't decide whether or not it felt right looking at these objects against white walls and a heavily varnished floors, it instantly cast my mind to their original surroundings, stones amongst thick green grass or driftwood afloat a white water river. Maybe this is the point? The removal of subjects from their natural environment, to view them out of context. However, accompanying photographs also show various pieces made amidst the journeys travelled in preparation for 'Human Nature', suggesting Long has preference over neither viewing platform, "A sculpture feeds the senses directly at a place. A photograph or text feeds the imagination by extension to other places." (1985)
