Andy Hope 1930 - Medley Tour @ Hauser & Wirth
I visited this show a couple of weeks ago by accident after seeing the Ron Meuk show next door and was pleasantly surprised. Its taken me a long time to get my head around borrowed imagery, different people's depictions of things and their reasoning behind the way they present it, similar to what I have previously mentioned is interesting about Hannah Marten. Hope uses mostly comic book references, abstracting them in painting, claiming influences of suprematism and Russian constructivism. However, the thing I liked about this show was not so much the paintings, but the inclusion of a ready made food processor which I assume was some come of metaphor for the title name. I like the incomparable aesthetic difference between this ready made object and the rest of the work, it feels defiant of a stereotypical painting show.
